Avoid Unpleasant Surprises When Selling or Buying a Washington DC Home

When you are selling and then buying a Washington DC home, here are some things you can do to avoid some unpleasant surprises.

  1. Get a pre-approved for a home loan. Do not sign a contract to sell your old Washington DC home before you know if you are qualified to buy another or you could get stuck.
  2. Determine how much the house you want to sell is really worth. Michelle Buckman of Buckman Realtor can help you determine your Washington DC home's fair market value. She may also suggest that you order an appraisal so there are no surprises.
  3. Estimate what it will cost to sell your Washington DC home. Your Realtor Michelle Buckman can help you to estimate your costs, and those can include: taxes, surveys and inspections, contractor (or repair costs) fees, legal fees, closing/escrow agent costs and other professional fees.
  4. Determine what it will cost to buy your new Washington DC home. Costs for a new home can include moving expenses, loan costs, down payment money, home inspections, title work, homeowners’ insurance - any expense related to buying a home. Your lender should give you a disclosure of estimated costs when you apply for pre-approval.
  5. Calculate your estimated proceeds from the sale of your existing home, and determine if your closing proceeds will allow you to buy a Washington DC home. If not, you'll have to come up with cash or other funding to make up any difference.

There is a great deal of coordination involved with selling a Washington DC home, and then buying another Washington DC home. Michelle Buckman of Buckman Realtors has the knowledge, experience, and good reputation to makes your moves happen. Please contact Michelle Buckman of Buckman Realtor today.
