Is the Trinidad Neighborhood Right For Your Next Home Purchase?

When buying a home, it is important not only to consider the actual structure itself, but also what the neighborhood surrounding it is like. Trinidad is located in northeast Washington, DC in the fifth ward of the city. Mount Olivet Cemetery borders it to the north, the National Arboretum to the east and Gallaudet University on the west. The Trinidad neighborhood is largely a residential area with tree-lined streets and a nice mixture of single-family homes and two-story apartment buildings.

Once owned by George Washington University, the development of the Trinidad neighborhood began in the late 1800s or early 1900s. In the early development years, Trinidad housed many rowhouses - similar to a traditional craftsman style house - since that was the design of choice in the 1920s. Today, the Trinidad neighborhood is home to many African American families and hearing-impaired individuals who attend nearby Gallaudet University.

If you are looking for a neighborhood that offers more than just houses, but a place where people are friendly, know each other and kids are frequently playing on the sideway and in yards then Trinidad may be the ideal location for your next home purchase.

The Trinidad Neighborhood Association is a volunteer-driven organization focused on enhancing the quality of life in the Trinidad neighborhood. Working to identify and address community concerns and issues, the TNA often promotes opportunities for economic development through engagement of community stakeholders such as property owners and residents.

Only you can decide which neighborhood best suits the needs and interests your family, since you understand them better than anyone does. Considerations such as proximity to your place of employment, to schools if you have children, to parks, restaurants and other activities you enjoy. Make the selection based on your personal desires rather than the price of the property, while that is important, it will never make up for the other decision factors.
